RailNewcastle, based in Newcastle University, is a three-week programme which focuses on Rail and Logistics. Over the programme students from different universities across Europe are able to learn about the challenges and recent developments within the rail sector.

Every year RailNewcastle brings together about 50 students from universities across Europe. Not only students are given the opportunity listen to railway specialists from organisations such as Network Rail and Tyne and Wear Freight Partnership but students are also lectured by professors from all over Europe, including for example Dr Florin Nemtanu from the Politechnica University of Bucharest, Liliana Magalhães from the Instituto Superior Tecnico and Professor Nikolav Georgiev from the Higher School of Transport, amongst others. During the second week students are expected to work in multi-cultural teams on different rail related research projects, enabling them to utilise the theoretical knowledge they have acquired throughout the first week.

Finally, the third week comprises of visits to technical sites such as Tyne and Wear Metro depot and the Port of Tyne. The end of the week is marked by an awards ceremony, attended by the students, educators and representatives from the railway sector, a perfect opportunity for networking.
