The railway industry in Poland, as well as in many other countries, is one of the most important sectors of the economy, influencing the development of many other sectors. In Poland the railway industry not only includes rail lines, trains and stations, but also the real estate, ICT and energy industries. This creates numerous employment opportunities. How can you find employment in this sector?
The PKP Group is the largest entity in the railway industry and one of the largest employers in Poland. Its various companies employ approximately 70 thousand people in many professions and specializations.
It was established in 2001 as a result of restructuring the state-owned Polskie Koleje Państwowe. The main purpose of these changes was to separate railway transport and railway management, and to create independent commercial entities that could provide more than just railway services. The PKP Group combines public service with activities found in a corporation operating in a market economy. The PKP Group includes PKP S.A. – the parent company – as well as companies providing other services, including railway and ICT. A detailed overview of the companies and their activities is available at: https://www.pkp.pl/pl/grupa-pkp/spolki-grupy (in Polish).
In 2013, PKP S.A. – the parent company of the PKP Group – established the PKP Group Foundation. Its aim is to contribute to society through charitable activities and receives funding from the PKP Group of companies, which allocate part of their generated income to support this initiative. The mission of the Foundation is to deepen knowledge and awareness of railway safety, promote new technologies and innovation for railways, protect objects of cultural and historical value, and support communities. Through its work, the Foundation works hard to help ensure safety on railway areas for people with reduced mobility, educate children and youth, and prevent the marginalization of various social groups. In addition to the PKP Group there are also other entities operating on the Polish railway market, including passenger and freight railway carriers. One of these companies is PKP Energetyka, which despite the PKP abbreviation, is a private entity. It mainly deals with the sale and supply of electricity to commercial customers and business customers: https://www.pkpenergetyka.pl/EN
