EC, UIC, rail infra owners to debate deployment of 5G-enabled FRMCS

Many railway infrastructure owners are now preparing to implement theFuture Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), the sector’s new 5G-enabled communications standard. FRMCS is due to launch in 2025 and will replace the current GSM-R standard, which is expected to be phased out around 2030.

The rollout of FRMCS is vital for the future of railways. It will accelerate rail digitalisation, allowing infrastructure managers and rail operators to boost safety, optimise maintenance and improve service quality, sustainability, and multimodality.

The International Railway Summit is organising a two-part webinar series ‘How can the rail infra sector implement FRMCS with maximum efficiency’, in association with Frequentis. Key stakeholders designing, regulating and implementing FRMCS will share their expertise, debating how rail infrastructure managers can maximise its benefits.

The webinar ‘Managing a flexible and cost-effective transition to FRMCS’ is free to attend. It will be held on Tuesday, 25 May 2021, 13:00 – 14:30 CET
